JetBlue Safe Travel Review
When it comes to safety, JetBlue has been a leader in its COVID-19 health policies and protocols.
To protect its passengers and employees, JetBlue conducts temperature checks for all customer-facing employees. It also provides paid sick leave and time off so team members never feel the need to come to work with any COVID-19 symptoms.
JetBlue has enhanced both aircraft and airport cleaning. We like that it’s concrete in its enhanced cleaning policy: it cleans high-touch surfaces like tray tables and lavatories between each flight. Every night, JetBlue deep cleans its aircraft using a hospital-grade disinfectant (Sani-Cide Ex3) and electrostatic sprayers.
JetBlue provides personal protection packs to customer before boarding, which include hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes.
All crew members and passengers are required to wear masks at the airport and on board.
JetBlue has committed to blocking middle seats on larger aircraft and aisle seats on smaller aircraft through October 15, 2020. JetBlue and Southwest are the only airlines we’ve reviewed that are committed to blocking seats into October.
While experts acknowledge that true social distancing on an aircraft is not possible, an as-yet unpublished study by MIT Stern professor Arnold Barnett finds that the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission goes down by nearly 50% if there is an empty seat between customers. JetBlue’s ongoing prioritization of passenger safety over profits is admirable given this information.
JetBlue’s flexibility around rebooking and cancellation also extends to tickets booked through October 15, 2020. Change and cancellation fees are waived for customers with bookings made through that date. If you choose to cancel your flight, you will receive a JetBlue Travel Bank Credit for the amount of the ticket.
