What's it like to stay with Hilton right now?
Hilton rolled out Hilton CleanStay with Lysol Protection following the pandemic which includes:
- CleanStay room seals on doors to indicate they haven’t been accessed after cleaning
- Extra disinfection of the top 10 high touch surfaces in guest rooms
- Removing paper amenities like notepads and directories from rooms
- Evaluating electrostatic sprayers and ultraviolet light for sanitization
- Contactless checkin and checkout at 4,800+ hotels
Hilton’s social distancing policy encourages guests to check-in using its app and digital key technology at available hotels. This allows a contactless check-in and departure and encourages social distancing. In common areas of the hotel like the lobby, Hilton implements social distancing signage, floor decals, partitions at reception counters, and removal of furniture to guide guests to remain safely distant.
Safe Travel Guide team members stayed in multiple Hilton properties in December 2020 while traveling long distance by car in the US.
We found the Hilton properties — a Hampton Inn and Home 2 Suites (both franchise properties), so not managed directly by Hilton — did a satisfactory job complying with Hilton’s cleaning and social distancing policies. However, fellow guests didn’t always follow guidance, especially when it came to wearing masks.
We also would have liked to have seen better management / signage at elevator entry/exit, limiting access to a reasonable number of guests. We found ourselves taking the stairs given the properties were only four floors.
As of January 2021, Hilton’s family of hotel brands offers flexible rates at many properties — with free changes / cancellations 24 hours before arrival. However, check the specific hotel and rate you’re booking to be certain. We didn’t find a concrete commitment for booking flexibility like Marriott‘s which lasts through March 2021.
However, we surveyed Hilton hotel rates over multiple dates in Chicago; Marietta, GA; London, UK, and Singapore. We found the cheapest rate could be changed or cancelled within 24 hours of arrival for the hotels in Chicago, Marietta, and London. The Singapore hotel offered a cheaper rate that could only be cancelled without penalty within 72 hours of arrival. So again, check with your specific hotel before booking as flexibility remains important as the uncertainty around Covid continues in early 2021.
